Vintage matchbox art
I absolutely LOVE these vintage matchbox labels. Maraid Design has great examples on their website, as well as these great labels on flickr. I think that collecting these just might become a new hobby of mine.
lines & shapes
LINES & SHAPES is a series of small books to be published throughout the year featuring the work of various artists including Jennifer Causey, Lena Corwin, Karen Gelardi, Caitlin Mociun, Christopher Ryan, and Maria Vettese. Each volume will have its own theme to revolve around, the first being the CIRCLE.
Kate Gibb
Check out London-based illustrator Kate Gibb’s work here. With a background in textiles and a great sense of color, her client list is continuing to grow, including Penguin Books, Adidas, Lee, and Levis. She has also worked in the music industry providing artwork for The Chemical Brothers, Simian, Bob Marley, Suede, and The Magic Numbers. Her own blog is here.
New threads
I broke down and bought a couple of new T-shirts from my fav online store: Threadless. Designs from ALIADOTONY and Tim Biskup, visit their websites to see more of their great work.
PDF Mags!
I just discovered two lovely websites that are a base for tons of free pdf magazines that are available to download on the web. Topics range from art, culture, design, music, tech, illustration, photography, traveling, etc. Click here or here to visit the site. My favorites include: Blanket, Analogue, Code, Two hundred by 200, Destructed, Design & Life, Soma, Contiudo, Amai.
Things I have learned…
Recently I was inspired by the graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister, who had put together a list of what he had learned in his life. I decided to make my own list and granted, there are many many more things that I have learned, but this is the top 10 that I feel have had the biggest impact on me:
Top 10 Things I Have Learned In My Life
1) Being truthful is the most important virtue, for once trust is broken, it is hard to gain back.
2) People are people, and everyone has a story.
3) Focusing on the past or the future will get me nowhere, I need to live now.
4) Helping others always helps me.
5) I am responsible for everything I do. There’s always a choice, and it’s up to me.
6) Travel gives a new perspective to life.
7) Everything is beautiful-you just have to see.
8 ) New ideas and inspirations are necessary for my growth.
9) “Accidents” can sometimes be the best thing for you.
10) Family is the most important of all.
Well there you have it, my top 10. I’m sure this list will change over time, but for now, I will look to it as a guide and reminder to myself when i lose sight of what’s important.
Spread a little love
I’m getting in the Valentine’s Day spirit! Last night I made valentines with scrap papers that I got from Pure Paper, one of my favorite East Village shops.
