renewal

Spring is arriving! This morning a lovely thunderstorm rained down, and with it, my mood has suddenly been lifted. The feeling of spring has washed over me, renewing my spirit. With spring comes new life, a hope for what is to come. It’s contagious and spreads through my whole life. I’m now craving fresh, whole foods. Making the effort to spend time outside. Seeing my creativity wake up. Taking on new projects. Just yesterday, I had the urge to paint again after a dry spell which had lasted months. There is an anxiousness within me, pushing me. I feel a closeness with the earth, with nature. It’s the seasonal life-cycle starring me square in the eyes, gently showing me its own beauty. Nature, mysterious & awe-inspiring, ever unfolding to me in new ways. A time for second chances, spring is a washing of the old and a cleansing of what remains. Re-birth surrounds me, and I am happy.

The Brelli-quite possibly the coolest umbrella ever made. I want one!

dusting off the shelves

One of my lifelong passions has recently been awoken: books! Over the past five years, the love I have for books has fallen by the wayside. While I was in school, my studies and social life took 110% of my free time. Besides the occasional textbook, I had no time for reading. But now that I am finished with school and have moved on to a new stage in my life, I am finding the time to dust off the shelves and get back to reading. I had forgotten just how priceless the feeling of totally immersing myself in a good book feels like. You see, a good book never ends. It stays with you in your heart, in your life. My recent reads include: On Beauty by Zadie Smith and The Bride Stripped Bare by Nikki Gemmell.

Alibris – Online store selling used, rare, and out-of-print books

I decided to post some of these images taken by T and I on an excursion around our neighborhood last week. We got out our 30 yr. old 35 mm cameras, and although we looked a wee bit like tourists, we sure did have fun. Spring is coming!!!

I simply LOVE this Swedish artist, Stina Persson. She says her style is about “finding the right balance between the edgy and the elegant the raw and the beautiful.” Persson uses ink, watercolor, and gouache. Check out her website here or her buy her prints online at the Cosh gallery here.

Be Pure!

After spending much of my life thus far battling with dermatologists and putting harmful chemicals and anti-biotics into my body, I have finally been saved!! I decided to give it all up, cold turkey for the sake of my skin. I was recommended to try Sukí, a line of all natural skin care products. I tried it, and instantly fell in love. My skin has never felt so good in my life! You can get Sukí products at your local health food store, or my favorite, Campbell’s Nutrition. For more info check out the Sukí website here.

Sound of Color

What does color sound like? Sound of Color, the promotion for the Gap’s spring/summer collection, features this Black/White song and video by the Ravonettes, as well as videos from four other artists, each with their respective colors-red, blue, green, yellow. I think it’s a way-creative campaign, and a fun concept to wrap your head around. Check out the website here to download the songs and see if it’s possible for colors to actually have sound.

p.s. The design was done by Blind/Chris Do. This really makes me want to learn how to do animations!

Yellena

Perhaps it’s my long-term obsession with pens or my love for color but artist/designer, Yellena James, is my type of artist. I love how her pieces seem to come directly out of her imagination and how the slight imperfections makes it that much more believable. She works with pens, inks, markers, and acrylics to create relationships between shapes and colors. Slip away into the magical land of Yellena: visit her website here and her Etsy shop here.
